That time when the designer became the client…

Our house has reached that point.  10 years of little (then big!) boys, pets, foundation settling, and the general life span of products has opened up all kinds of opportunities to update our house.

That's a positive perspective on 'lots of stuff needs to be fixed.'

One of the things that has been on my radar for the past 2-3 years is painting the main living space.  Now, our house has an open concept...and when I say open concept, I mean the living room is open 25' in the air with a peaked ceiling and bridge from one side to the other.  Painting the great room means painting the entry, hallway, upstairs hallway and 2 stairwells.

I painted the whole house back in 2005 when we built and let me tell you that ten years is not nearly long enough to forget cutting in along the ceiling while standing 25-foot in the air on a ladder.  Just because I could paint it myself did not mean I would.

Our family recently went on vacation.  We decided that this would be a great time to have the house painted.  I have contracted painters and builders to coincide with my clients' vacations, but never have I experienced that myself.

Oh. My. Gosh.

No wonder you all love hiring designers!

It was AMAZING to come back from a relaxing trip to have a project finished!  No living around tarps and fumes and people in-and-out!  No navigating the maze of ladders and scaffolding just to get to the kitchen.

We returned to a brighter, fresher-looking home.  Now, if only that client-experience would have included someone moving my furniture and accessories back with a couple new throw pillows and artwork...
